Holland Taylor Says No to Returning as Evelyn on ‘Two and a Half Men’

Holland Taylor is not looking to bring back Evelyn Harper. Asked on NBC’s “Today” whether she would revisit the “Two and a Half Men” mother she played for 12 seasons, Taylor answered, “I’ve actually done her sufficiently,” according to TV Insider. The interview aired Oct. 13, per Today.

Holland Taylor on a possible revival

Taylor appeared on the show’s third hour to talk about her new Apple TV comedy “Brothers,” where she plays Matthew McConaughey’s mother. Host Craig Melvin asked which past characters she would like to revisit. She said she would love to play Professor Stromwell from “Legally Blonde” again, imagining the character as a Supreme Court justice by now.

Then Melvin suggested Evelyn from “Two and a Half Men.” Taylor gave her answer, and Melvin joked it sounded like “a hard no,” TV Insider reports. She played the mother of Charlie Sheen’s and Jon Cryer’s characters from 2003 to 2015 and earned four Emmy nominations for the role, per the outlet.

What she said about Charlie Sheen

TV Insider also points to a recent Entertainment Weekly interview in which Taylor said she had an “affectionate relationship” with Sheen, but that the later years were “difficult.” She said she was sorry the show ended the way it did and added that she thinks Sheen “found a better life now.” Sheen was fired in 2011 and replaced by Ashton Kutcher.

The comments land in the same week as creator Chuck Lorre’s memoir “Sitcom,” which has sent the old CBS series back into the headlines. We covered the book’s casting stories in our Chuck Lorre memoir report.
