The Avengers: Doomsday World Series preview has aired, and it was a full scene, not a teaser. Friday’s Game 1 broadcast on Fox carried a special look in which Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic throws a ceremonial first pitch at Ebbets Field, Chris Evans appears as Steve Rogers, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom arrives over the ballpark. The clip is on MLB’s and Marvel’s official social channels now, and the film opens December 18.
What the preview actually shows
The scene takes place at Ebbets Field in the retro-future world of the Fantastic Four, first introduced in 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Reed Richards, wearing a Brooklyn Dodgers cap, stretches his elastic arm to deliver the ceremonial pitch to Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, per Deadline and MLB.com. For the World Series cut, MLB wove real players into the dugout: Freddie Freeman, Randy Arozarena, Game 1 starter Jacob Misiorowski, Bryce Harper and Junior Caminero. “These ceremonial first pitches are getting bigger and bigger,” Misiorowski jokes.
The button on the scene is Doctor Doom’s arrival in the skies above the field. Harper spots him and tells the group, “We gotta go. Like, now.”
The Steve Rogers moment is the real news
Deadline confirms the preview also features Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, in a beat where Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is left confused over who to call Captain America now that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson carries the shield. It is the first Doomsday footage shown of Evans, whose return was announced with the cast but never seen until now. Our read on why Marvel led with this: the two-Captain-Americas confusion is a comedic doorway into the film’s central collision of three realities, and it tells casual viewers in ten seconds that both eras of the MCU are in this movie. That is an interpretation of the marketing choice, not confirmed plot information.
What it confirms, and what it does not
Confirmed by the footage itself: the Fantastic Four’s Earth is central to the film, Doom hails from that universe, and the Avengers and Fantastic Four worlds are on what Marvel calls a collision course. EW notes the preview slots into plot threads seeded in the Avengers: Endgame Encore theatrical re-release, where Sue Storm describes Victor von Doom as a man who “used to be kind” before everything he loved was taken from him. What remains unknown: how much of the film is set in the retro-future New York, and whether the Dodgers-never-left-Brooklyn detail is world-building or just a sight gag. MLB.com itself raised that question without answering it, so treat it as an open thread rather than a confirmed plot point.
The rollout so far, and what to watch for next
The campaign has escalated in clear steps: the first teasers and the cast announcement, the Endgame Encore re-release with new post-credits scenes, and now the first broadcast footage buy in one of the last mass-audience slots on American television. Disney marketing chief Martha Morrison told MLB.com, “There’s no bigger stage in baseball than the World Series.” A full trailer release date has not been announced, and search interest in “Avengers: Doomsday trailer” is exactly what this clip was built to feed. For everything already confirmed about the film, our Avengers: Doomsday release date, cast and trailer tracker stays current, and our pre-air watch guide has the broadcast context. On the Marvel TV side, our VisionQuest episode schedule tracks the next Disney+ series.
Marvel and baseball have history
The crossover has a precedent inside the MCU itself. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers wakes up decades in the future to a Brooklyn Dodgers game on the radio, which MLB.com traced to a real May 25, 1941 matchup between the Phillies and Dodgers. Friday’s scene bookends that reference: the same franchise that put a Dodgers game in Captain America’s origin story now puts the Fantastic Four on a Brooklyn mound and drops Doom over the skyline.
