Godzilla Minus Zero Final Trailer Sets Up the Clash With King Ghidorah

The Godzilla Minus Zero final trailer is out, and it puts the King of Monsters up against King Ghidorah. Toho began streaming the new trailer on Sunday for the sequel to “Godzilla Minus One,” according to Anime News Network. Takashi Yamazaki returns as director, writer and VFX supervisor.

The film is set in 1949, two years after the events of the 2023 original. GamesRadar described the footage as post-war Japan still recovering from Godzilla’s first attack when a new threat arrives. Godzilla regenerates, and the two monsters head toward a fight for supremacy.

Release date and rating

Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan on November 3, which is Godzilla Day, and in North America on November 6 through GKIDS and Toho. Anime News Network noted it is the first Japan-produced Godzilla film to open in Japan and North America in the same week, and the first Japanese film to be advertised as “Filmed for IMAX.” GamesRadar reported it is also the first R-rated Godzilla movie. Yamazaki said certain scenes were “so essential to the film” that censoring or cutting them “was just not an option.”

Cast

Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe and Hidetaka Yoshioka return from the first film. Min Tanaka joins as biologist Kanji Murakami, and the cast also includes Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando and Mio Tanaka. Naoki Sato is back to compose the score.

“Godzilla Minus One” won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in March 2024, the first Japanese film to do so. It has earned more than $116 million worldwide and streams on Netflix.
