Kelly Clarkson Says a Brooklyn Store Gave Her the “Pretty Woman” Treatment

Kelly Clarkson says a Brooklyn store treated her like Vivian in “Pretty Woman,” and she told her followers about it on X. The singer wrote on October 10 that she drove to the shop expecting to buy a few things, then felt dismissed by an employee.

“Literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me,” Clarkson wrote. “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.” She named the store in the post and added a thumbs-down emoji, suggesting fans visit “if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman,” E! News reported.

The movie reference

Clarkson was pointing to the 1990 scene where Julia Roberts’ character, in casual clothes, is brushed off by a boutique clerk. She later returns with shopping bags from other stores and tells the clerk, “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” E! News said it contacted the store for comment and had not heard back at the time of publication.

Where Clarkson stands now

Clarkson, 44, moved to New York in 2023 when “The Kelly Clarkson Show” relocated from Los Angeles. In February she said she was stepping away from the daily talk show schedule to put her kids first, adding, “This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there.” She also opened her delayed Las Vegas residency this weekend, according to Entertainment Tonight.
