The Game reunion is official: all six original stars of the sitcom gathered for a dinner in Los Angeles to mark 20 years since the show premiered, with Tia Mowry saying the night felt like “picking up right where we left off,” Essence and Yahoo report.
The Game reunion: who showed up
Essence reports the group met for dinner at Lucia’s in Los Angeles over the weekend. The cast included Tia Mowry (Melanie Barnett), Pooch Hall (Derwin Davis), Hosea Chanchez (Malik Wright), Wendy Raquel Robinson (Tasha Mack), Brittany Daniel (Kelly Pitts) and Coby Bell (Jason Pitts). That Grape Juice lists the same six names.
Essence says it had been nearly a decade since the whole group last got together. Per the outlet, they swapped memories of favorite episodes and the long-running fan debate over Melanie and Derwin.
What Tia Mowry said
Mowry shared photos from the dinner on Instagram. In the caption, quoted by Yahoo, she wrote that “sitting around that table felt like picking up right where we left off. So much laughter, so many memories, and yes, a little getting emotional over here!” She also thanked fans, writing that “we wouldn’t be celebrating 20 years without you.”
A quick look back at The Game
The series was created by Mara Brock Akil as a spin-off of Girlfriends and premiered on The CW on Oct. 1, 2006, according to Yahoo. It followed pro football players and the women in their lives. After three seasons it was canceled in 2009, then moved to BET and returned in January 2011. Essence says the fourth-season premiere drew 7.7 million viewers, a cable sitcom record at the time. The show ran nine seasons and got a Paramount+ revival in 2021, per Essence.
Is there a new Game on the way?
No. That Grape Juice notes that nothing has been confirmed about the franchise’s future, even as reboots of Black sitcoms pick up steam. Nobody in the reporting says new episodes are planned.
