Country singer Ella Langley says she would cancel her Tulsa concert again. “I would have made yesterday’s decision 10 billion times over,” she told the crowd at her next stop in Lubbock, Texas, on Oct. 10, according to USA Today. Police in Tulsa say they found no credible threat.
The cancellation
Langley canceled her Friday, Oct. 9, show at Tulsa’s BOK Center hours before it began. In an Instagram post that has since been removed, she cited “a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team,” and said the decision was made “under the advisement of local authorities, the venue, and my security team,” USA Today and American Songwriter report. The BOK Center said the show could not proceed and that refund information would follow.
What police say
Tulsa police described it differently. Capt. Richard Meulenberg said officers searched the venue with bomb-sniffing dogs, then returned for a second sweep after a caller warned of possible gunfire and bombs. “We could not find a credible threat here at the BOK Center,” he said, per USA Today. He told local outlet News On 6, as quoted by American Songwriter: “We never advised them they should not continue to have their event. They made the decision upon themselves to cancel the event.”
Langley’s response
In Lubbock, the 27-year-old said she was “put in charge of a decision for 15,000 people” and chose “the decision that I could live with the rest of my life, because a concert’s not worth a human life,” American Songwriter reports. She told fans she would only play if she felt a show could be safe, and USA Today says she also considered canceling Lubbock before feeling reassured. The Tulsa date is part of her Dandelion Tour, which has followed the success of “Choosin’ Texas.”
