Billy Crystal Says He No Longer Trusts God Ahead of Broadway Show 860

Billy Crystal says he no longer trusts God, and the reason is tied to his new Broadway show. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 78-year-old said the loss of his home and the death of his friend Rob Reiner changed his faith, Fox News and Playbill report. The show, Billy Crystal 860, is now in previews on Broadway.

What Billy Crystal said about God

Asked whether he still talks to God, the way he did in his earlier one-man show “700 Sundays,” Crystal answered plainly. “No, ’cause I don’t trust Him,” he said, per Fox News. “Too many bad things have happened. The Earth is in bad shape. This is a weird, scary time. So no, not anymore.”

Fox News reports that Crystal and his wife, Janice, lost their Pacific Palisades home of 46 years in the January 2025 wildfires. Reiner, a close friend, died in December 2025. Crystal told CBS he and Reiner had been together at a holiday party the night before.

Why the Billy Crystal 860 show has that name

The title is the street address of the house. Playbill says the stage is a replica of Crystal’s home office, built to match the room before the fire. Crystal told CBS that Reiner helped him choose the title. He had a few options, and Reiner said of “860,” “That’s the one. I love that,” per Playbill.

Crystal says the show is already helping. “I’ve absorbed the biggest pains that people can go through. The loss of home, dearest of friends, and I’m okay,” he said, as quoted by Playbill. He also described the house as a place where he and Janice raised their children and grandchildren. USA Today has a separate interview on the family story behind the show, and Crystal also discussed it on The View.
