Avengers: Doomsday hits US theaters on December 18, 2026. The release date is locked, the first trailer is out, and tickets for premium Infinity Vision screenings are already on sale. Here is everything confirmed so far, plus the latest cast news from this week.
The release date, and why it moved
Marvel Studios lists Avengers: Doomsday with a December 18, 2026 theatrical release date. That was not always the plan. The film was originally dated May 1, 2026, until Disney pushed it back by roughly seven months in May 2025, along with its follow-up. Reuters reported at the time that the new schedule was chosen to give the filmmakers more time to finish what are among the biggest movies Disney has ever made.
The same shift moved Avengers: Secret Wars from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027. So the two-part finale of the Multiverse Saga now lands back-to-back in the holiday corridor, about a year apart.
The trailer is out and tickets are on sale
On July 20, 2026, Marvel debuted the first full trailer and poster, and tickets went on sale the same day, according to The Walt Disney Studios. The early ticket push is tied to a new premium format called Infinity Vision, Disney’s certification for Premium Large Format screens that guarantees big screens, bright images and upgraded sound. If you want the biggest-screen experience on opening weekend, those are the showtimes to look for at your usual ticket seller.
With about nine weeks left until release, standard and IMAX showtimes are rolling out steadily at major US theater chains.

Who is in it
The headline casting is Robert Downey Jr. returning to the franchise, this time as the villain Doctor Doom. Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of Infinity War and Endgame, are back behind the camera.
The confirmed cast pulls from three corners of the Marvel world:
- Original Avengers: Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston
- The Fantastic Four: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach
- Classic X-Men: Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming
- Thunderbolts and more: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman, Hannah John-Kamen, plus Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Channing Tatum, Danny Ramirez, Kathryn Newton and Tenoch Huerta Mejia
Marvel’s official synopsis says heroes from three distinct universes are set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they have encountered.
The latest buzz this week
Jeremy Renner is not in the movie. The Hawkeye actor told outlets this week that “they didn’t call me,” and joked the Avengers “will probably lose” without him, as The Independent and Variety reported on October 13-15.
Sebastian Stan is bracing fans. He told Deadline on October 7 that the film is “probably heartbreaking,” adding, “We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”
The Russos promise a shocker. The directors have teased a “very surprising ending,” per Digital Spy, which has only added to speculation about how Doomsday sets up Secret Wars.
