VisionQuest Premiere: James Spader Is Back as Ultron, Full Cast and What Critics Say

VisionQuest, Marvel’s new Disney+ series, premiered Tuesday, Oct. 13 with two episodes, and the big headline is that James Spader is back as Ultron. Inverse reports that the show moved up a day from its original Oct. 14 date, and that new episodes land each Tuesday through the finale on Nov. 10.

VisionQuest cast: who is back

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, and Spader plays Ultron for the first time since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, per TV Guide. Inverse lists Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy, Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, Emily Hamshire as E.D.I.T.H., Johnathan Sayer as U and Henry Lewis as Dum-E.

What VisionQuest is about

The series picks up after WandaVision and Agatha All Along. Inverse says it follows the new White Vision as he tries to live up to the legacy of the original, while other AIs in his mind, including F.R.I.D.A.Y. and Ultron, pull at him. People describes it as an eight-episode series.

What James Spader said about Ultron

Spader told Entertainment Weekly he saw a loophole that could have let Ultron return after Age of Ultron. TechRadar reports he called playing the character here “even more interesting” than the first time. People has a separate interview on how he reacted to the return.

How VisionQuest reviews look

Early reviews are mixed. The Hollywood Reporter says Bettany and Spader elevate a series that is “sometimes moving, sometimes exhausting.”
