Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly Reunite as Gibbs and Tony on ‘NCIS: Origins’ for the First Time in 10 Years

Gibbs and DiNozzo are about to share a scene again. Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly will appear together on screen as Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo for the first time in 10 years on NCIS: Origins, in an episode airing Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, Variety and TheWrap reported Tuesday.

What happens in the NCIS: Origins reunion

Per Variety, Gibbs returns to NCIS headquarters in Washington to ask for help from DiNozzo, who is now the agency’s director, after Gibbs is shot by unknown assailants. TheWrap says the attack happened in the Season 3 premiere, and that the people behind it promised to go after someone else from Gibbs’s past next. The episode streams on Paramount+ after it airs.

A decade since the last scene together

Harmon and Weatherly appeared together for 13 seasons of NCIS. Their last shared scene was the Season 13 finale, when Tony left the agency, according to Variety. Harmon, an executive producer on Origins, appears in every episode this season as part of a present-day mystery tied to his character’s time at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s, Variety reports. Weatherly came back to the franchise this season as NCIS returned for Season 24 on Oct. 6.

The Origins Season 3 premiere averaged 4.39 million viewers, up 20% from last year’s premiere, per CBS figures cited by Variety. It was the top broadcast show in its time slot. The series stars Austin Stowell as a young Gibbs in the early 1990s, with Harmon narrating.
