Sam Mendes’ Four Beatles Films Are Set for April 2028, Producer Pippa Harris Says

Sam Mendes’ four Beatles movies are on track to arrive in April 2028, and producer Pippa Harris says the plan is for audiences to see them in cinemas during the same period. She spoke at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline and JoBlo.

What Pippa Harris said about the rollout

Harris, who co-founded Neal Street Productions with Mendes, said the shoot was on day 180 as she took a break to appear at the festival’s Industry Forum. On the release plan she said: “The idea at the moment is the films will come out in 2028, and we want people to be able to experience them in the cinema during the same period.”

She added that this does not mean viewers must watch all four in one sitting. “Within the same month, you might see one a week, or you might see one on a weekend, two the next one,” she said. The Hollywood Reporter and JoBlo both say the four features are currently slated to open a week apart in April 2028. Harris described the wording as the current idea, so the exact dates are not locked in.

Cast and crew

Paul Mescal plays Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson is John Lennon, Joseph Quinn is George Harrison and Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr. The Hollywood Reporter lists Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Cox, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd and Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney.

Deadline reports that Mendes is directing from scripts by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne. Sony Pictures and Mendes’ Neal Street Productions are behind the project, produced in association with Apple Corps. Deadline says it is the first time the Beatles and Apple Corps have authorized the use of the band members’ life stories and music in scripted films.

Harris said each film stands alone as the story of one of the four men, but together they have “a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of their parts.”
