Sharon Osbourne Says Ozzy ‘Went Out Like a Viking’ Ahead of ‘Back to the Beginning’ Film

Sharon Osbourne says her late husband went out the way he wanted. Ahead of the release of the concert film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, she told Rolling Stone in a rare interview: “I say he went out like a Viking. It was the way he wanted.”

Back to the Beginning film release date

The two-and-a-half-hour film opens in theaters worldwide on Oct. 28, per Rolling Stone and Variety. The Osbourne family hosts a “purple carpet” world premiere Wednesday at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, with half of ticket proceeds going to homeless charities, Rolling Stone reports. Ben Wainwright-Pearce, who directed Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour for Disney+, directed the film, according to Variety. Trafalgar Releasing is distributing it.

The film covers the July 2025 farewell concert in Birmingham, England, where Ozzy Osbourne performed a solo set and reunited with the original Black Sabbath members. He died 17 days later, Rolling Stone and Variety report.

What Sharon Osbourne said about the farewell show

Osbourne told Rolling Stone it has been “very, very tough” since her husband’s death, but that she is grateful for “46 years of marriage with an amazing guy.” She said she has watched the film and found parts of it hard to see. She has not yet been able to watch two documentaries she and Ozzy took part in before his death, Ozzy: No Escape from Now and the BBC’s Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home.

She also described how the show came together. Ozzy’s doctors advised against it, she said, but he told them: “It’s not an option. It’s what I want.” Rolling Stone also quotes her on ongoing litigation with business associates, saying the year has included “things that have come out about bad advice.”
