Apple Original Films released the first full trailer for “Being Heumann” on Oct. 12, ahead of the film’s gala screening at the BFI London Film Festival. It is the new drama from Oscar-winning “CODA” director Siân Heder, about disability rights activist Judy Heumann, BroadwayWorld and Digital Spy report.
What the film is about
The film follows Heumann, played by Ruth Madeley, who leads more than 100 people into the San Francisco Federal Building in 1977 to demand equal rights. BroadwayWorld says the sit-in became the longest occupation of a federal building in U.S. history. Mark Ruffalo plays the government official the protesters want to answer them.
Heder wrote the script with Rebekah Taussig and based it on Heumann’s memoir, “Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist.” The cast also includes Dylan O’Brien, Roberta Colindrez, Rob Delaney and Ray Fisher, according to BroadwayWorld.
When you can see it
“Being Heumann” opens in select theaters on Nov. 6, 2026, and streams globally on Apple TV on Friday, Nov. 13, BroadwayWorld reports. It opened this year’s Toronto International Film Festival last month. IndieWire called Madeley’s turn “star-making” and the film a rousing biopic, and Digital Spy says first reviews have called it “essential” and “crowd-pleasing.”
