Meghan Markle and Malala Yousafzai Team Up: As Ever Jam and Tea Sales Will Benefit the Malala Fund

Meghan Markle and Malala Yousafzai are turning a London tea date into a fundraiser. On Sunday, International Day of the Girl, the Duchess of Sussex and the Nobel Peace Prize winner announced that all net proceeds from As Ever jams and teas will go to the Malala Fund.

The two shared photos in a joint Instagram post from their October 7 afternoon tea at Claridge’s in Mayfair, according to People and Hello. In one picture they sit with their arms around each other. In another they hold hands. The meeting was Meghan’s first public sighting in London since she, Prince Harry and their children moved back to Britain on August 26.

What the partnership covers

The caption read: “When we support the girls of today, we empower the women of tomorrow. Access to education is the key to unlocking this.” It added that, in partnership with Archewell Philanthropies, 100% of net proceeds from As Ever jams and teas will support the Malala Fund and its work on free, safe, quality education for girls. The post closed with “Tea for Two has never felt so good.”

Hello reports that the Malala Fund, founded in 2013, works in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Brazil, Tanzania, Pakistan and Nigeria. The Daily Mail reports the donation applies to sales made on the day.

A look back, and what comes next

Meghan, Harry and Malala spoke in a virtual conversation for International Day of the Girl in 2020. Afterward Malala said, “Meghan and I are on the same page: we both believe that when girls have access to education, everyone wins.”

Hello, citing The Times, reports that the couple will make their first joint engagements in the UK next week, with a trip to Nottingham planned for Thursday.
