“Lioness” Season 3 closed with 9.7 million viewers in its first seven days, the most-watched episode in the series and the No. 5 finale ever for a Paramount+ original, per Variety. Paramount+ has not yet announced a Season 4. Here is what the numbers say and what is still open.
Quick answer: Is there a “Lioness” Season 4? Not officially. As of October 20, 2026, Paramount+ has not renewed or canceled the Taylor Sheridan series. The ratings are the strongest in its history, which usually helps a renewal case. No release date, cast or episode count exists for Season 4.
- Reported (Variety): the Season 3 finale drew 9.7 million viewers in seven days. Season 3 averaged 8.5 million viewers a week, up 62% from Season 2.
- Reported (Variety, citing Nielsen): the show hit its first billion-minute week during finale week and logged 3.9 billion minutes across the eight-week run. It made Nielsen and Luminate top-10 streaming charts eight weeks in a row.
- Reported: Season 3 ran eight episodes from August 2 to September 20, 2026, per Variety and Paramount+.
- Unconfirmed: a Season 4 renewal, a release date, who returns, and whether Season 4 would be the last.
Updated: October 20, 2026, 5:20 p.m. ET. What changed: first published after Variety’s ratings report. Facts last verified October 20, 2026, 5:20 p.m. ET against Variety, Forbes and IBTimes UK.
How big are the “Lioness” Season 3 ratings?
Big by this show’s own standard. Forbes reported that the Season 3 premiere reached 7.1 million viewers in its first seven days. Variety says each week of the season beat the one before it and that the finale ended on the high. The 9.7 million figure counts the first seven days of availability, not live viewing.
One caution on the context. Variety attributes the minutes-watched figures to Nielsen. Viewers in seven days and minutes watched measure different things, so we do not add or compare them. Season 1 and 2 catch-up viewing is also cited, but the figure printed in Variety looks like a typo, so we are not repeating it.
Will there be a “Lioness” Season 4?
Nothing official yet. Paramount+ said on September 23 that Season 4 had not been renewed, per IBTimes UK. Zoe Saldaña, who stars and executive produces, told People on September 27: “I don’t know if we’re able to go to a season 4. I don’t know where he would take it.” IBTimes notes that this reflects uncertainty about the story, not a decision by the studio.
Cast members sound more hopeful. Jill Wagner told ScreenRant, “We’re going to get a Season 4,” per Forbes. That is a cast opinion, not a network announcement.
When could Season 4 come out?
Nobody knows. Forbes pointed to a precedent: Season 3 was renewed on October 1, 2025, almost ten months after the Season 2 finale, and debuted about ten months after that. If that gap repeated, a renewal would land around July 2027. Forbes called that speculation, and so do we. Season 4 could be announced sooner.
What do other “Lioness” Season 4 articles skip?
Most pieces either lead with the record or with the renewal question. Few separate the two. Ratings are Paramount+ and Nielsen data. A renewal is a business decision that has taken months before. We also flag the numbers that are not comparable and the one figure that looks wrong.

- Watch Paramount+ and Taylor Sheridan’s official channels for a renewal notice.

Analysis: strong, growing ratings give Paramount+ a clear reason to renew. Forbes notes the show’s working relationship with Sheridan “before his contract runs out” as a factor, and the last renewal took months. We read the timeline as a matter of scheduling and contracts more than audience size. That is our view, not reported fact.
